factory-backed race cars' class constraints, modern drag racers have been
able to develop muscle cars further still, and this Le Mans is a prime
example. It uses some of the original frame but with the rear rails narrowed
in order to fit in the huge racing slicks and custom-fabricated coilover
damper suspension and adjustable four-bar locating arms. At the front
all unnecessary steel has been stripped out which means no inner fenders.
The interior too has been stripped completely, with painted metal left
for the floor and door panels. Two lightweight racing bucket seats stand
alone inside. The engine comprises a 400 ci (6.6-litre) block with 455
ci (7.5-litre) crank and Super Duty con-rods, plus 12.5:1 pistons and
a huge carburettor that can How 1150 cubic feet (32 cubic metres) of air
per minute. Nitrous oxide adds 150 bhp (112 kW) while racing.
