| | PONTIAC GTO JUDGE (1969) CAR HISTORYCar review on PONTIAC GTO JUDGEThe Judge carried
on a Pontiac tradition of being the quintessential muscle car. It debuted
in the Carousel Red paint with 'The Judge' decals on the hood and front
wings, so you couldn't miss Pontiac's new high-performance version GTO.
The looks were backed with performance too, as Judges got the 366 bhp
(251 kW) Ram Air III engine. Also fitted to the car were stiffer springs
and shocks to improve cornering and ride. The standard gear ratio in the
rear axle was 3.90:1 with a Safe-T-Track differential, though steeper
gears for better acceleration could be ordered. Externally the car was
one of the first to use energy-absorbing bumpers which would cope with
up to 4 mph (6.3 km/h) impact. Inside the car was praised for its style,
with a clear dash layout and the hood-mounted rev counter. The buckets
seats gave good support and the floor-mounted Hurst shifter stirred a
Muncie gearbox.
