| | PONTIAC GP HURST SSJ (1972) CAR HISTORYCar review on PONTIAC GP HURST SSJThe looks might have been a long way from the muscle Pontiacs of the 1960s, but the 1972 Grand Prix at least had some of those classics' traits, thanks to the front V8 and rear-wheel-drive format. This was the third year for Hurst's involvement with the Grand Prix, and their additions included heavy-duty suspension and power front disc brakes, plus on the majority of cars, a Hurst shifted auto gearbox. The standard engine was the 400 ci (6,554 cc) D-port unit, underrated at 250 bhp (186 kW) with a dual plane intake and four-barrel carb. Buyers could opt for the mighty 455 ci (7.4-litre) which was modified by Hurst Performance Research. It received blueprinting, a more aggressive camshaft and reworked cylinder heads, hence though rated at 250 bhp (186 kW), it was more like 350 bhp (261 kW). The interior had a curved dash facing the driver and centre console splitting high-back bucket seats.
