was somewhat overshadowed by the Camaro from which it was derived. The
car arrived in 1967 and offered an attractive shape with the classic muscle
layout of a front engine driving the rear wheels. Base models came with
manual steering and brakes, but many buyers opted for power versions of
both, which transformed the car. Inside were buckets seats and deep-set
gauges. The H.O. 350 ci (5.7-litre) wasn't the most powerful engine, but
it did have a long duration camshaft, 10.25:1 compression and big valves
to achieve its impressive power. While it was barely slower than the bigger-engined
car, it was much cheaper, so was a good seller. The four-speed manual
was the gearbox to have, while at the rear the 10-bolt, leaf-sprung axle
could be ordered with the Safe-T-Track limited-slip differential and a
variety of gear ratios.
