put his personal stamp on this design of Lincoln's luxury coupe. It was
very long for a two-door coupe and in fact had the longest hood ever produced
on a US car (over 6 ft or 1.8 m). Under it was 150 lb (68 kg) of sound-deadening
to quieten the 460 ci (7,538 cc) V8, though it couldn't dampen the performance,
thanks to the huge torque produced. The suspension was set deliberately
soft, so the car floated in style over the worst of surfaces, while the
interior wrapped the driver in leather-lined luxury and wood trim, with
a distinctly stately like dash. The engine - unusually for a luxury vehicle
but typical for the late 1960s - ran 10.5:1 compression and a four-barrel
carburettor for tremendous performance, and the car was brought down in
speed by the power-assisted 11.7-inch (280 mm) front discs and huge rear
drum brakes.
