Of all the cars Jensen of West Bromwich ever made, the interceptor and FF were easily the most outstanding. Beautiful and fast, the Interceptor was based on the previous glassfibre-bodied CV8, but featured a new Touring-style body.

FF stood for Ferguson Formula, the four-wheel-drive system developed by Harry Ferguson that, not unlike systems found on off-road vehicles, split the torque unequally between the front and rear wheels — 67 per cent to the rear, 37 per cent to the front - to give the car unreal handling qualities for a big GT car of the mid-60s. This, combined with Dunlop Maxaret anti-lock braking -another first - is what led the pundits to call the FF the world's safest car. Not until the Audi Quattro appeared 15 years later was four-wheel drive again offered on a performance road car.

At first glance the FF, with its distinctive Vignale shape, looked identical to the much more conventional Interceptor, and indeed they had much in common. Under the bonnet was a 6.3-litre 325 bhp V-eight engine driving through a three-speed Torqueilite automatic transmission to a live rear axle. A closer look revealed a 4-in (10cm) longer wheelbase and a slightly different nose, while the most obvious recognition point was the extra vent on either front wing. Underneath, the tubular chassis - welded to the steel body - was almost totally different, with the prop shaft passing along the left of the engine and box and, at the front, a chassis mounted differential taking the drive to the front wheels. Extra weight slightly blunted the performance of the car compared with the two-wheel-drive Interceptor, but not much: the FF was still good for 130 mph (209 kph) with 0-60 (96) in eight seconds.

Although the car was widely acclaimed, it suffered by comparison I with the near identical-looking Interceptor, which was nowhere near as accomplished but a third less costly. A Series II version was introduced in 1969 with a tidied-up interior and front-end styling.
Sales were slow compared with the two-wheel-drive car. The FF was discontinued in 1971, the Interceptor in 1976.
